When reporting a problem, it helps to include the app version, shown under Settings → About NaturaPin. The Send tip button in the app fills it in for you.
Can the app tell me which mushroom I found?
No. NaturaPin is a map for marking places on, not an app that identifies species. The kind you pick is your own note about what you thought you found, and the app never looks at the photo you take. What is safe to eat is yours to decide — with a field guide, with someone who knows, or at a mushroom inspection. Several of the good mushrooms have poisonous lookalikes, and some of those are deadly.
Where are my finds stored?
On your own device only. There is no server and no cloud sync, and nobody but you can reach them. If you change phones or reinstall the app you have to move them yourself with a backup.
How do I make a backup?
Under the three dots in My finds you will find Back up. The file holds everything: finds, photos, weather, time, position and direction. Put it in iCloud Drive or somewhere else you can reach without the phone. Always make one before you switch phones.
Can I write my own note on a find?
Yes. Tap a find and write whatever you like in the Note box — how much of it there was, who you were with, that the gate is locked, that it is a fifteen-minute walk from the road. It saves as you type, the first line shows in the list, and it comes along in both the backup and the GPX file. Your words are never translated.
How do I put the keyboard away after writing a note?
Tap Hide keyboard, up beside the Note heading. The keyboard goes down and the find stays open. The Done in the top corner is a different button: that one closes the whole find. You can also drag the find downwards and the keyboard follows your thumb off the screen.
How do I delete everything and start over?
Under the three dots in My finds there is Delete all finds. The app asks twice and offers to make a backup first, because there is nothing to get back afterwards: the finds are only in the app, nothing syncs, and there is no wastebasket. Your own kinds and your settings are left alone.
Why did my find get no weather?
Weather is fetched over the network, and out in the forest there is rarely a signal. The find is saved anyway, and the weather is filled in the next time you open the app with a connection — but only if the find is less than an hour and a half old, because the forecast data does not reach backwards in time. Pins you place by hand never get weather, because the weather where you are standing says nothing about a place you are not.
How accurate is the position?
When you mark a find the app waits for three readings that are each accurate to within ten metres and saves the median of them. If that has not happened within eight seconds it uses the best reading it managed to get. However accurate it turned out to be is always written out in the detail view, in metres.
Which languages does it speak?
The app is written in Swedish. Fifteen more languages are included, translated with the help of AI without a native speaker having read them through. If you spot something that came out wrong, please write and tell me.
Your finds never leave the device. The only thing sent out is the coordinate of a find to the weather service, at the moment the weather is fetched — and that can be turned off. See the privacy policy.
